This lesson is a great resource for a Health class when studying nutrition as well as Directed Study or Study Skill classes with life skills standards. The lesson engages students in creating healthy meals with the MyPlate guidelines, as well as has them practice their photography basic techniques.  Directed Studies Standard IL3 (Independent Living 3) Students will demonstrate healthy eating and my plate. Health Strand 5 Standard 6.N.1: Locate age appropreiate guidelines for eating and physical activity.

The Utah Core Standard that this lesson incorporates is the College and Career Awareness Core (Strand 4, Standard 2). The goal of this lesson is to teach various self-care skills, have students demonstrate their practice of self-care through taking pictures and creating an Adobe Express poster of at least two images (two activites). This lesson takes approximately 45 minutes and is best taught face-to-face. Students will submit their digital posters via Canvas. This lesson was made to be used for 9th grade "Sports and Outdoor Product Design 1" students.  It can easily be adapted to fit other grades as well.  It will teach students about fiber, yarn, fabric -- including knit, non-woven, and woven (plain, twill, and satin weaves).  Students will complete a Digital Scavenger Hunt by taking pictures, and finding open licensure pictures online (giving proper credit for the pictures).
