This is an assessment from the Stanford History Education Group's Civic Online Reasoning curriculum. This is to assess how well students can assess information/claims that they find on social media. This is an assessment that is housed on Google Forms. You will be prompted to make a copy of the assessment which you can be distributed to students.

This lesson is to teach students about different apps they can use to create their digital stories based upon the script that they wrote. In this lesson, they will explore different video-making apps and begin to create their video using their script and storyboards.

TIn this lesson we will be discussing with high school students how to protect themselves from fake news.  We will be doing an activity that has them using these skills in real time. 

Overview:Students will be creating a video regarding a topic of their choice. In terms of content, it is very flexible. It can be a short documentary, a how-to video, a presentation, a video showing off a hobby, ect. They will be spending most of their time researching and practicing for their video, with time taken aside to collect feedback from their peers in terms of stand-up meetings and exit tickets. I take students through the processes of determining an inquiry question they are interested in exploring, how to properly utilize and credit online resources and material, creating presentations and artifacts, presenting their projects, and digitally cataloging project content. 

Preparing students for the world of tomorrow that will be means we need to incorporate more technology in classroom that doesn't simply replace something older, but instead is something you couldn't accomplish without the technology. Before you ask kids to use a brand new technology (to at least some) in a formal assessment, you first need to teach them how to use it and practice it in a low-risk setting so they're willing to try and take risks. iMovie can be used in the classroom to accomplish many tasks - kids can create a virtual gallery of their learning throughout a unit, give a visual and oral report on a topic, become a tour guide to a country they're learning about, create a book trailer for an independent reading or literature circle assignment ... the list is long. 

The Importance of Digital Citizenship HyperDoc will help students learn about, understand, and use their gained knowledge of digital citizenship wisely.  Students will visit five links about different aspects of digital citizenship and communicate, through writing notes, what they learn and experience in each section.

Students are asked to review the social media policy of a local school district. Students are asked to review information about governments accessing private information. This is a 5 day unit about validating sources on the internet and social media.  It is taught so that students understand and respect the obligations of using social media wisely before sharing and the importance of giving credit to creators through citing sources.  It is a blended unit with a final project to be done in Apple's Keynote where students will show what they have learned in a slide show to other students in the class. Through watching several examples of commercials, campaign ads, TED talks, sports videos, instructional videos, and mini-documentaries, students will learn how to determine the audience, purpose, misconceptions, and level of influence various forms of media has.

Students will be given an introduction to the library layout and how to find books in the library catalog. They will understand strategies for choosing books for independent reading. Students will begin researching the various methods provided by teachers to present knowledge of a book at the end of the school year, why the selected it, and what other books they plan on reading next.
