This month, our UOL updates are focusing on eMedia and the new lesson plan template tool! Stay tuned for how-to videos on how to use this new lesson plan tool and other helpful tips.

Students and explores the fundamental concepts of credit, creditworthiness, and the long-term consequences of financial decisions.

Students will get past misconceptions about people with disabilities through activities that create empathy for those with disabilities.

This activity is to help students be creative with some of the content they learn in Financial Literacy. Students will learn about taxes and then take it an extra step by creating a short film about what they learned.  This can be used to help other students learn more about the complex tax system.  Students can use a classroom video camera or their own device to record and edit.See an example video here. General Financial Literacy Strand 1 Standard 2Picture: “Taxes” by Karolina Grabowska from Pexels is free to use.

This lesson will help students to understand how alcohol, tobacco and other drugs affect the human body and can impair an individual's actions.

Instruction on using the Destiny Quest feature in the Follett Destiny Library Managing Software system. This helps student be more autonomous in holding books, recommending books to peers, reviewing and rating titles, and researching their next read.

This is the second lesson in a series of two introducing the Gale Reference Library. Students will browse the Opposing Viewpoints in Context on Gale Reference Library. After choosing a debatable topic, students will read the overview to summarize the argument and identify opposing claims. Next, students will choose two resources (one representing each side of the debate) and evaluate the claim and argument for each resource.

Before reading, create a graphic organizer that uses the titles and subtitles of an informational text.

Identify information from text using titles, subtitles, diagrams, charts, graphs, maps, photographs, illustrations, and captions by using a preview checklist.

In this lesson, students will research, organize and create a 2-3 minute digital story about 1 of 3 different cultures that have influenced Utah's culture. They can choose from the Fremont People, the Ute Indians, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Pioneers. There are some background lessons and information that will need to be covered in order to finish this final project for 4th grade Utah Social Studies Standard 2 Objective 1. These lessons are linked and highlighted in the Teacher Background section of this lesson plan.There are a few worksheets and mini-lessons (that can be taught in a synchronous manner) associated with this final project that could take 2-3 days to complete and then the digital story can be finished in an hour or two. The final presentation and the mini assignments could all include small group discussions, whole class instruction, and could easily be tailored to teach to students learning virtually.The mini-lessons and supplimental information were found through the UEN website and a youtube video by Nick Epling. The students will understand the history of the Utes' displacement and dispossession, as well as how vital land and resources are to the sovereignty of the Ute nation in Utah.

After illustrating the place where they spent their summer vacation, students will place their picture on a teacher created matrix.
