This is a lesson plan designed to teach the phases of the moon to sixth grade students. They will use IPADS to create a presentation to show their undestanding. They should be able to identify all the phases of the moon and their order. (Picture taken by my son Max)
In this unit of study, students will design, build, program, and test a small fan-powered "robot" created with an Arduino controller. The drone must move a certain distance, then stop. This unit integrates nine STEM attributes and was developed as part of the South Metro-Salem STEM Partnership's Teacher Leadership Team. Any instructional materials are included within this unit of study.
This lesson is about Reform Movements in US History, what led to them, and the outcome of their fight for reform. It includes Women's Suffrage, The Progressive Movement, The Rise of the Temperance Movement, and the 1800s-1920s.This lesson will be presented in a primarily synchronous, face-to-face manner. Kids learn important life strategies while having fun with familiar Sesame Street characters. Kids will identify with each of the five problems, and they'll not only learn to calm down with deliberate deep breathing, they'll also be introduced to three possible strategies for working through each problem.
This unit uses the slinky seismometer as a means of studying physics concepts such as waves, sound and the speed of sound vs speed of light, resonance, electricity and magnetism, Lenz Law and magnetic dampening (backwards engineering). Students experiment with the basic parts of the seismometer and either build or connect the seismometer to the internet to take and upload data.
Designed for older students dealing with academic stress, Smiling Mind guides users through mindfulness activities. Beyond the app, the Smiling Mind website provides additional resources and activities for school counselors to help students.
Social Emotional Learning needs- wellness center
In this project, students will use knowledge of electricity and electromagnetism to collaboratively design and test a model of a magnetic recycling sorter. They will evaluate the performance of their models and propose further modifications based on the output of their magnetic device measured in mT using a Vernier probe. They will also physically test their magnets on a model of a conveyor belt containing recyclable items. Students will track their data from both tests, with the ultimate goal of creating the strongest and most effective magnet with given materials. Finally, students will present their findings and proposed final design to peers and community partners involved in the recycling industry. The entire process takes about 6 weeks. The unit is a great fit for standards within energy and engineering & design.

Different strategies for self-advocacy
In this lesson, ESOL students will record and edit their Digital Story about a challenge they have overcome. This will be towards the end of the unit, and almost towards the final grading of the project.
