This is a lesson plan designed for sixth grade students to create a podcast outlining highlighting a career in the audio/visual career cluster. By completing this project students are participating in a project that builds many skills in the audio/visual career cluster. The project is done using iPads with the Garage Band App. 

Apprenticeships are a win-win situation for both employers and the apprentices. Employers get a talent pipeline of skilled employees, and apprentices earn money while they learn the skills of the trade.

You can find apprenticeships in a broad range of industries: manufacturing, information technology, healthcare, construction, and more. Employers, employer and labor groups, and trade associations sponsor apprenticeships. They often partner with local colleges to deliver the classroom instruction.

In this media-rich lesson, students explore careers in science through profiles of Alaska Native scientists. They consider how traditional ways of knowing and Western approaches to science can complement each other and allow students to incorporate their own interests when considering careers in science.

Children will learn how to practice and maintain personal hygiene habits such as washing hands, brushing their teeth, and proper body hygiene.  

In this task, students can see that if the price level increases and peopleŐs incomes do not increase, they arenŐt able to purchase as many goods and services; in other words, their purchasing power decreases.

Caroline, an enslaved house servant at Mount Vernon, discusses the substitution of home-grown herbs for the tea that was previously imported from England. The use of homegrown and homemade items at Mount Vernon decreased the residents' dependency on the British.

Carroll v. U.S. (1925) was the first decision in which the Supreme Court acknowledged an “automobile exception” to the Fourth Amendment of the U.S. Constitution. Under this exception, an officer only needs probable cause to search a vehicle, rather than a search warrant.

Cartography is the art and science of graphically representing a geographical area on a flat surface such as a map. For Indigenous peoples, cartography is more than just topography or mapping locations. For many Indigenous communities, it's about values, culture and traditional understandings.

Meet San Francisco artist Sirron Norris, who discusses his public and commercial art projects. Although he works on projects like "Bob's Burgers," he still makes time to teach a cartoon-drawing class for kids every Saturday. He says that the best part about drawing cartoons is that there's no expectations. He teaches the children this, and that as long as they are proud of what they've created, then what they've created is perfect.

This inquiry kit features Library of Congress sources and examines the role and impact of political cartoons during the American War of Independence.

This lesson will allow students to create their own meme or GIF dipicting a political cartoon during the time of the American Revolution. Students will be able to observe different cartoons from the time period and discuss their meaning.

Students examine books, selected from the American Library Association Challenged/Banned Books list, and write persuasive pieces expressing their views about what should be done with the books at their school.

After exploring the “Case of the Disappearing Log,” students will probably never look at a log the same way again. In this activity, students assume the roles of detectives faced with a nature mystery. First, they explore a decomposing log and look for evidence of how the log is changing. They make possible explanations for what might be causing log to disappear. Students then learn about common “suspects”—organisms that decompose wood—and the signature evidence they each leave behind. Students use a Disappearing Log Key to identify which organisms might have left behind which evidence, and use this information to make explanations about what has happened to the log since it was a tree. Finally, students learn that the log isn’t really disappearing, it’s turning into the invisible gases that are part of the cycling of matter in all ecosystems.

Learning Objective: Infer the theme of a work, distinguishing theme from topic.

Become a detective to solve the case of the smelly backpack! Act out the clues and draw conclusions to solve the mystery.

When Detective Bentley cannot figure out why his backpack is smelly, he retraces the events in his day to find clues. Taking on the role of detectives, the viewers act out the events of Bentley’s day and use textual clues to solve the case.
