Students are given the following task and asked to write an expression. "You have been hired for a summer internship at a marine life aquarium. Part of your job is diluting brine for the saltwater fish tanks. The brine is composed of water and sea salt, and the salt concentration is 15.8% by mass, meaning that in any amount of brine the mass of salt is 15.8% of the total mass."

Students will consider the arguments made by members of the Continental Congress regarding whether or not to sign the Declaration of Independence. They will also have the opportunity to analyze each section of the Declaration to understand its meaning and consider the consequences of signing the document.

This is a lesson about learning U.S. symbols, states, and flags using an Adobe Spark webpage to present material on a projector, computer lab, or individual student devices. Students will create an Adobe Spark collage, presentation, or video using textor audio with photos they took and/or copyright-friendly photos properly cited.  

This resource is a Social Studies student activity that utilizes Utah's Online Library resources - specifically, Gale's Kids InfoBits and EBSCO's Explora Elementary to help students learn about the United States Pledge of Allegiance. 

In this lesson, students will research, organize and create a 2-3 minute digital story about 1 of 3 different cultures that have influenced Utah's culture. They can choose from the Fremont People, the Ute Indians, and the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints Pioneers. There are some background lessons and information that will need to be covered in order to finish this final project for 4th grade Utah Social Studies Standard 2 Objective 1. These lessons are linked and highlighted in the Teacher Background section of this lesson plan.There are a few worksheets and mini-lessons (that can be taught in a synchronous manner) associated with this final project that could take 2-3 days to complete and then the digital story can be finished in an hour or two. The final presentation and the mini assignments could all include small group discussions, whole class instruction, and could easily be tailored to teach to students learning virtually.The mini-lessons and supplimental information were found through the UEN website and a youtube video by Nick Epling. In this lesson, students will explore the differences between early Mormon Pioneer settlement and other Utah Settlement from non-Mormon Groups. The towns of Goshen and Eureka are used as case studies. Students will view maps and photos from these two geographically close locations to compare the spatial expression (layout), built environment (human-made), and place names of each location. Students will generalize these patterns to identify characteristics of Mormon Pioneer settlement and Mining settlements from around the same time.
