Students explore the menu genre by analyzing existing menus from local restaurants. They review adjectives and descriptive writing and then work in groups to create their own custom menus.
While the task as written does not explicitly use the term "unit rate," most of the work students will do amounts to finding unit rates. A recipe context works especially well since there are so many different pair-wise ratios to consider.
While investigating the properties of rocks, students will create a classroom rock collection.
The author explains heat transfer and how it applies to living in extremely cold environments.
The phenomenon is thermal expansion of copper. This demonstration allows an observer to see the effect of heating (and cooling) a copper tube. When heated, the copper tube lengthens and thickens. When cooled, the tube shrinks. The lengthening of the rod rotates a toothpick with an attached flag to make the expansion visible and measurable.
This lesson will help students identify text structures in various informational sources. They will learn that text structures are Cool Tools to help them find information in both print and online sources.
Cooperative Learning occurs when two or more learners collaborate to achieve a common goal. Typically, cooperative learning programs seek to foster positive interdependence through face-to-face interactions, to hold individual group members accountable for the collective project and to develop interpersonal skills among learners.
This article highlights the five essential components of cooperative learning, provides a quick overview of the research behind the strategy, describes three of the most common types, and offers ideas on how to get started using cooperative learning at the elementary level.
In Cooper v. Aaron (1958), the United States Supreme Court ruled that an Arkansas School Board had to comply with federal court orders regarding desegregation. The decision affirmed and enforced the Court's previous ruling in Brown v. Board of Education of Topeka.

Open middle problems generally require a higher Depth of Knowledge than most problems that assess procedural and conceptual understanding.
The purpose of this task it to use geometry and algebra in order to understand the behavior of the trigonometric function f(x)=sinx+cosx. The task has been stated in an open ended fashion as there are natural solutions using geometry, or using the trigonometric identity sin2x=2sinxcosx, or algebraically solving a system of equations.
The purpose of this Illustrative Mathematics task is to examine angles of triangles whose vertices have specific integer coordinates.

This is an activity page for younger children to learn about coping after a disaster.
This lesson provides a way to help the students demonstrate coping behaviors related to grief and loss through using concepts and conventions of print to create text.
This checklist will guide you when you import a previously used Canvas course into a new course.
