In this activity about light and refraction, learners discover how a lens creates an image that hangs in midair. A large Fresnel lens creates upside-down images of distant objects and right-side-up images of nearby objects. Learners can locate the upside-down images by using a piece of white paper as a screen. The right-side-up images are harder to find. Activity includes detailed explanations and diagrams to explain how the images are created.

Science Phenomena: HS Physical Science - Forces and Interactions - The coupled pendulum can be created with either string or a spring connecting the two pendulums. With each swing energy is transferred from one pendulum to the other. If the pendulums both have the same length one pendulum comes to a complete stop before alternating motion. This phenomenon can be used to show balanced and unbalanced forces, how motion can be used to predict future motion, and the conservation of energy.

Choctaw traditions link their mounds with their ancestors, corn, and the sky. The story defining these connections describes a moment long ago during which two hunters came upon a mysterious woman standing on a mound. She was hungry, so they offered her a hawk, and she promised to repay the kindness as she disappeared into the sky. When the hunters returned to the mound later, corn had grown in her place. And so the Choctaw regard this unknown woman as the reason they have corn.
