Empathy is a skill that anyone can build. But, why is it so important? This is the final chapter in the three-part Big Ideas: Empathy video series. In this chapter, Mojo learns how different emotions get in the way of his (and his team's) success. Your class will learn about the ”maze” concept, and the ClassDojo monsters will share how anyone can get out of the maze with a little bit of practice. A wonderful in-class and at-home discussion guide accompanies this chapter.

This lesson plan is co-taught in the media center with a classroom teacher who has assigned a research paper. The students should have an approved topic but have not started their research. They will learn how to evaluate sources they can use in their research paper. Once they have at least one source chosen, the students will create and share a short screen recording showing the different elements of the source that make it a good choice for their research paper. Citations:Per A.J.  Figurative language uses words or expressions that go beyond the literal meaning of words to get the message across. Although direct language is easier to understand, in some instances we respond better to more creative wording. For example, writers like to use figurative language to build imagery and give words more power. Idioms and analogies are considered some of the highest levels of language processing and some students with language impairments struggle with understanding the meaning of these figurative language.
