This lesson plan utilizes the Describe App to solidify student speech sound productions.  While the plan is tied to all grade Speaking and Listening by responding to questions using a clearly stated response which is found across all the grade language arts standards, it can be adapted to meet any Speaking and Listening standard at any grade level, particularly in upper elementary, school based on the amount of support given by the clinician to support the sound producitons, clarify clues given, and the contextual clues discussed to support the student's ability to respond clearly.S(This resource's preview image was created by the author of this lesson plan.)

Students write descriptions of characters, incorporate new vocabulary words, practice using simile and metaphor, engage in peer editing, and post their revised descriptions on the walls for a matching game.

The purpose of this task is to illustrate standard S.CP.1, which provides a review of the definitions of sample space and events. Students are asked to describe events both verbally and as subsets of a sample space.

Students will be able to incorporate sensory details into a piece of descriptive writing. Students will improve a piece of writing by using precise and vivid language and word choice.

Students will have a roaring good time when they watch a scene from "The Lion King" as a way to compare standard and described programming media.

Students will use what they have learned about descriptive writing--show don’t tell, vivid verbs and adjectives, sensory details, and figurative language--to write a snapshot detailed description of a picture they find or create.  Students select a picture of their choice and then write an extended paragraph. 

Students write descriptions of 100th day bottles they create at home, write clues about their bottles for a guessing game, practice descriptive writing, and create a class book.
