Equitable grading involves eliminating the 100-point grade scale and not penalizing students for late work and missed assignments if they can demonstrate subject mastery and even if they must retake tests or redo other assessments along the way.

Feldman says these assessment practices can help address stubborn achievement gaps and streamline the grading hodgepodge. But moves toward equitable grading seem to be rolling out in a patchwork fashion, and not without pushback and confusion.

This document guides Utah students, staff, and school communities on the appropriate and responsible use of artificial intelligence (AI), particularly generative AI tools, in classroom instruction, school management, and systemwide operations where permitted by local policy. Generative AI has potential benefits for education and risks that must be thoughtfully managed. Achieving a balance between delivering leading-edge education and safeguarding student information requires collaboration among experts in education and cybersecurity. Providing unrestricted access falls short of providing needed protection. Conversely, an outright ban on AI in schools impedes the development of essential future workforce skills. Instead, a balanced and informed approach is preferred, encompassing both maximizing learning and attending to security measures. This framework will require subsequent reviews to adapt to changes in technology and usage.

The Dyslexia Handbook offers guidance, resources, and appropriate supports and interventions for readers with dyslexia. It is also a communication tool for educators and parents to work together. Our hope is that both educators and parents will use the ideas and techniques in the handbook as a team. It is vitally important that struggling readers not give up on themselves; it is just as important that we as educators and parents assist and empower students with dyslexia to enter the world of reading feeling empowered and prepared for their future.
