Seven Daughters and Seven Sons is the retelling of a traditional Arabic tale in which a young woman disguises herself as a man and opens up a shop in a distant city in order to help her impoverished family. Her disguise causes her many complications but she eventually succeeds in redeeming the family fortunes and finding her true love. Students will learn aspects of Middle East culture and geography through reading the book.

In this lesson, students will learn to analyze maps to compare and contrast how Utah's territory has changed throughout history.

Students will use the elements and principles of design learned in this unit to design a room inside of a shoe box.

Students will list three or more types of evidence of prehistoric cultures that encouraged archaeologists to investigate the marshes around the Great Salt Lake. Students will also explain why it is important not to disturb archaeological remains.

Teaching students basic information about the needs of nutritious foods to eat and put into their body: Vegetables, Fruits, Grains, Dairy, Meat and the portion sizes of each that are applicable for the their age group. After a health education lesson review of the human skeletal system, a five day science experiment with chicken bones, in which the students observe physical changes or chemical reactions, reinforces the importance of the role that good nutrition has in body development.

Students will be introduced to and learn about the skeletal system as one of the major body systems. Students will know the technical names of the major bones in the Skeletal System. This is part one of the main body systems.

After learning about Harriet Tubman and the Underground Railroad, students will participate in the Underground railroad experiment on the National Geographic web site.Enduring Understanding:Global trade and cultural exchanges alter the lives of people around the world.

Students will be able to explore credit-related concepts and tools, delving into key terms including credit, credit cards, installment loans, revolving credit, student loans, mortgage, payday loans, predatory lenders, and simple interest in this lesson.

Simple experiments with puddles show evaporation happens as water molecules escape from the earth's surface. When they escape, they change from liquid to gas, or water vapor in a process called evaporation. The sun is the source of energy that causes this to occur.

Students will select a social or political movement of the 20th century (e.g. woman's movement, civil rights movement) to research and share what they learned with their classmates.Enduring Understanding:The U.S. emerged as a world influence through the contributions of individual groups, movements, and events.

This is the 3rd lesson in a unit where the students learn about a moment in history then create a geometric symbol as a quilt block representing that moment.
