Code.org Express Course (Student)

Learn the basics of computer science and internet safety. At the end of the course, create your very own game or story you can share.

CS Fundamentals Express combines the best of Courses A-F into a single condensed course (with a simpler option for pre-readers). We recommend Courses A-F for most classrooms, but if your school only offers one computer science course or you want to have your students work through multiple courses in a single year, the Express course is a better choice. By removing the ramp up between years, the express course provides a smoother path and doesn’t repeat concepts for students unnecessarily. This is also our recommended option for students studying computer science on their own, outside of a classroom.

Our purpose is to help educators enter the world of coding in elementary. The idea of this workshop is to help teachers, regardless of prior experience in CS, jump right in and see how they can start making it a part of their classroom. In the workshop, participants will participate in entry level coding and computational thinking activities that they can learn and take right into the classroom to engage with students. They'll be introduced to coding concepts in a simple and learner focused approach to help participants learn the basics. Additionally, we'll discuss how they can use it in a cross-curricular setting. Educators will leave the sessions with their new CS skills, ideas for the classroom, how to provide differentiation, and platform space to continue to practice their new skills themselves and with students.

Jared and Dani are back with another Learn @ Home episode of UEN Homeroom. This week we are discussing what distance learning looks like with Cody Spendlove, Edtech Director of Alpine School District. As part of our conversation we talk about how to provide devices to a district with 80,000 students, how to keep kids safe online while working from home, and the best practices teachers are using to engage students in an online learning environment.
