Paleontologists, including a leading expert in horned dinosaurs, lead students through this phenomenon-based investiigation to understand the evolutionary pathway that lead to Triceratops. Students will study use the fossil record and use a suite of interactives to evaluate shared traits, phylogenetic trees, and deep time maps to build an evidence base to help them answer their research question. Along the way, they'll earn a virtual field tool kit and a NHMU Junior Paleontologist certificate.
NHMU Research Quests are phenomena-based, online investigations asynchronously led by museum educators and scientists that are rooted in museum research and collections. Resources include teacher instructional guides, formative and summative assessments, and student notebooks. A free educator acount is required to access the materials.

On the 7th Student Materials page you will find: the Mathematical Foundation (an explanation of the mathematical content in each chapter), the Student Workbook (an overview of the chapter, daily class activities and matching homework sets, Practice Standards connections for the chapter, and student self-assessments), a link to purchasing a soft-cover version of the workbook (these are available at cost, however you are free to print all materials yourself), and a parent manual (this is the student workbook with selected answers and explanations.)

On the 7th Teacher Support Materials page you will find a Teachers’ Edition to the Student Workbook. It contains answers to all problems, pedagogical suggestions, and explanations of the mathematical flow of the workbook. Additionally, you will find the word version of the Student Workbook.

Utah Settlement Patterns: Mormon Pioneer and Non-Mormon

In this lesson, students will explore the differences between early Mormon Pioneer settlement and other Utah Settlement from non-Mormon Groups. The towns of Goshen and Eureka are used as case studies. Students will view maps and photos from these two geographically close locations to compare the spatial expression (layout), built environment (human-made), and place names of each location. Students will generalize these patterns to identify characteristics of Mormon Pioneer settlement and Mining settlements from around the same time.
