Paleontologists, including a leading expert in horned dinosaurs, lead students through this phenomenon-based investiigation to understand the evolutionary pathway that lead to Triceratops. Students will study use the fossil record and use a suite of interactives to evaluate shared traits, phylogenetic trees, and deep time maps to build an evidence base to help them answer their research question. Along the way, they'll earn a virtual field tool kit and a NHMU Junior Paleontologist certificate.

In this lesson, students will explore the differences between early Mormon Pioneer settlement and other Utah Settlement from non-Mormon Groups. The towns of Goshen and Eureka are used as case studies. Students will view maps and photos from these two geographically close locations to compare the spatial expression (layout), built environment (human-made), and place names of each location. Students will generalize these patterns to identify characteristics of Mormon Pioneer settlement and Mining settlements from around the same time.

This lesson will engage students in understanding the impact mountain men had on Native American tribes living in Utah. Students will also understand and appreciate the role that mountain men played in the eventual settling of Utah. Students will be assessed by creating an Apple Pages project wherein they demonstrate their understanding of the two issues. Students are asked to create an essay including images about a mountain man of their choice that impacted Utah.

Students use the new text-to-image tool in Adobe Express to create a visualization of a literary character by adapting a prompt from the description(s) of that character in their original source material.

C3. Inquiry based lesson plan. Students investigate the conflicts, conditions, and factors of the western expansion in the U.S. prior to the Civil War. Includes supporting questions and a summative performance task. Also includes a song, maps, charts, excerpts from articles, posters/artwork from the time period, and more for students to analyze as a means of preparing their arguments.

C3. Inquiry based lesson plan. Using supporting questions and formative performance assessments, students formulate an argument about whether or not the development suburbs was good for America. Focuses on the rapid urbanization following WWII from 1945-1950, students learn about the social and economic conditions of the U.S. during this time as well as the role of government.

Many students do not understand the importance of the U.S. Census and why it is taken. This lesson will help students understand the importance of the Census historically and the importance of its contemporary use.

Students will compare their Mystery Fossils to 3D models of fossils already classified by type and species from Cleveland-Lloyd Dinosaur Quarry. The data they collect will serve as the basis for their answer to the central question of this investigation,“What dinosaur did these bones come from?”
