Seminar on a selected topic from Renaissance architecture. Requires original research and presentation of a report. The aim of this course is to highlight some technical aspects of the classical tradition in architecture that have so far received only sporadic attention. It is well known that quantification has always been an essential component of classical design: proportional systems in particular have been keenly investigated. But the actual technical tools whereby quantitative precision was conceived, represented, transmitted, and implemented in pre-modern architecture remain mostly unexplored. By showing that a dialectical relationship between architectural theory and data-processing technologies was as crucial in the past as it is today, this course hopes to promote a more historically aware understanding of the current computer-induced transformations in architectural design.

This project discovers the history of Modern Europe, starting at the Hundred Years War and ending at the present time.
A chronological perspective of history is attempted within this text. Although this is the case, it is also important to understand patterns within European History, therefore chapters will attempt to cover a breadth of material even though their titles might be that of a specific pattern in history rather than a time period.

Students discover why Leonardo is considered the ultimate Renaissance man. They will learn about his famous notebooks, focusing upon his machines of motion, then zooming in on the flying machines.

This resource is a Fine Arts student activity that utilizes Utah's Online Library resources - specifically the Gale Biography in Context database - for conducting research about Renaissance artists.

In this lesson, students will investigate and identify Renaissance 'movers and shakers' and their contributions. They will conduct research, create multimedia presentations, and design class activities centered around an important Renaissance artist, thinker, and/or scientist. Research resources and student handouts are included in the lesson plan.The lesson is intended to take about 5 class periods of 45 minutes each.The lesson is based on a lesson originally created by Diana Payne and Dirk Sprunt.
