Analyze ways cultures use, maintain, and preserve their physical enviornment

Analyze ways cultures use, maintain, and preserve their physical enviornment

    Overview

This lesson is a culmination assessment of the things they have learned in social studies to analyze the ways cultures use, maintian, and preserve the physical enviornment. Identify ways people use their physical enviornment, compare changes in natural resources over time, describe ways to preserve and protect natural resources, compare perspectives of various communities toward their natural enviornment, and make inferences about the positive and negative impacts of human-caused change to the natural enviornment.

    Summary

This lesson is a culmination assessment of the things they have learned in social studies to analyze the ways cultures use, maintian, and preserve the physical enviornment. Identify ways people use their physical enviornment, compare changes in natural resources over time, describe ways to preserve and protect natural resources, compare perspectives of various communities toward their natural enviornment, and make inferences about the positive and negative impacts of human-caused change to the natural enviornment.

    • Time frame approx. 60 minutes
    • Format is face to face using ipads

    Background for Teachers

    • Before teaching this lesson the following packground knowledge is needed: ways people use their physical enviornment, changes in natural resources over time, ways to preserve and protect natural resources, perspectives of various communities toward their natural enviornment, inferences about the positive and negative impacts of human-caused change to the natural enviornment.
    • You will need knowledge about your community and other communities and how they impact and care for their enviornment.
    • The following resources can help you teach this topic:

Step 1 - Goals and Outcomes

    Learning Intentions:

    • Students will be able to identify ways people use their physical enviornment, compare changes in natural resources over time, describe ways to preserve and protect natural resources, compare perspectives of various communities toward their natural enviornment, and make inferences about the positive and negative impacts of human-caused change to the natural enviornment.

    Success Criteria:

    • Students will create an iMovie with photos or short video clips and words to demonstrate their learning.

    Step 2 - Planning Instruction

    Student Background Knowledge

In this section, include how you will access student background knowledge. You may include content standards that should already be mastered, or you can use the following sentence starter to help you describe what students need to know or be able to do:

    • Prior to this lesson, students will need to have an understanding of changes in natural resources over time, ways to preserve and protect natural resources, perspectives of various communities toward their natural enviornment, and inferences about the positive and negative impacts of human-caused change to the natural enviornment.

    Strategies for Diverse Learners

For diverse learners allow them to apply these human impacts to the country they came from and include picutres they may have from wehre they came from.

    Step 3 - Instruction

    • List objective for students of this lesson: create an iMovie of the unit we have just completed with changes in natural resources over time, ways to preserve and protect natural resources, perspectives of various communities toward their natural enviornment, and inferences about the positive and negative impacts of human-caused change to the natural enviornment. Students need to have at least 10 photos with at least 7 captions demonstrating what they have learned.
    • Share iMovie that has already been created as an example
    • For 5-10 minutes have students work together in teams of two. Students will make a list of changes in natural resources over time, ways to preserve and protect natural resources, perspectives of various communities toward their natural enviornment, and inferences about the positive and negative impacts of human-caused change to the natural enviornment that we have learned in previous lessons through out this unit. Students will also compile pictures of as many examples they listed as possible.
    • Have all students open iPad and the iMovie app. Walk through how to add a photo step by step with your students. You do if first, then let them do it.
    • Allow students time to work together to get this assignment completed together. Circulate the room to help students as needed. Allow students who are excelling to add other things to their movie such as transitions or music.

    Step 4 - Assessments

The assessment for this lesson is the attached rubric
