Students investigate what it means to be alive. Students sort items into three categories: living, nonliving, or once living. Yeast and cornmeal are similar looking powders and students will conduct an experiment to see if either powder is alive. A terrarium is used to demonstrate to students that living, nonliving, and once living materials all interact in an ecosystem.

The student will be able to examine United States Indian policy by understanding the events surrounding the Long Walk. They also will be able to understand how the Long Walk and the escape to Utah serve as examples of Navajo determination and persistence.

The current world today is wrought with issues that affect our students daily. This lesson is designed to introduce some of these issues.

Students will study a map of their school and then create a map of their classroom.

In this lesson, students will learn how to use maps to support the conclusion that the Aztec homeland was once in Utah.

The teacher will read aloud Ruth Stiles Gannett's book, "My Father's Dragon" and facilitate rich classroom discussions.

Students will be able to identify marriage and family financial goals and developing budget strategies, discuss the impact of money management on the marriage relationship, and understand how to develop a realistic monthly budget, based upon a set income.
