    • You will need knowledge about using digital photos, photo sharing, Adobe Spark post, and Giphy to help students create their final project.
    • The following resources can help you teach this topic.

Step 1 - Goals and Outcomes

    Learning Intentions:

    • Students will be able to understand and say the vocabulary "season, spring, summer, autumn, and winter" in Chinese.
    • Students will be able to use the sentence frame "I like _________ (season)" in Chinese to talk about seasons.

    Success Criteria:

    • Students will be able to do a presentation with the sentence frame "I like _____ (season)" in Chinese by showing a photo project.

    Step 2 - Planning Instruction

    Student Background Knowledge

Prior to this lesson, students will need to have an understanding of taking pictures and using Adobe Spark Page and Giphy on iPads. They will also need to have an understanding of using appropriate photos without violating copyright law.

    Strategies for Diverse Learners

This lesson can be adjusted to provide students with additional photos of seasons if they are unable to take pictures or search for appropriate photos.

    Step 3 - Instruction

    1. Have students look at the photos that were taken in fall. The teacher will describes the photos by using vocabulary of colors and gestures, and teach "秋天” (fall in Chinese). Then the teacher will say "I like fall" in Chinese with the gesture of a heart.

    2. Have students read the word fall in Chinese after the teacher. Then ask the students who like fall stand up and say "I like fall" in Chinese together.

    3. Show the video of Four Seasons Song to the students.

    4. Show photos of the other seasons to students and teach the vocabulary, and the sentence frame " I like _____." in Chinese.

    5. Practice

        (1) Students read the vocabulary after the teacher.

        (2) Give students a photo of a season, and have students stand up and say that aloud when they hear the season.

        (3) Have four students come to the front, and give each student a season picture. Have them hold up the picture, stand in a circle to make the cycle of the seasons. Then, have students do it in group of four.

        (4) Have students stand up and say "I like _____." in Chinese when they see the photo of their favorite season.

        (5) Nearpod Practice: Listen and say, Draw and say.

Students listen and repeat the vocabulary and sentences in Nearpod.

Students draw their favorite season and say " I like..." in Chinese.

    6. Project

        (1) Demonstrate how to use Adobe Spark Post and Giphy to create their project, and how to search appropritate pictures online without violation of copyright law. Let students know that they can use the photos that taken by themselves, use online photos, or the photos in the "picture bank" which is a online folder with some season pictures that are provided by the teacher.

        (2) Show rubrics and examples to help students understand the expectation of the project better.

        (3) Students create their project and present it in class.

    Step 4 - Assessments

Students will say the season aloud in Chinese which are shown on Nearpod, and record their vioce.

Students  will create a Adobe Spark Post or a Giphy image of their favorite season, and then do a brife presentation about their favorite season by using the sentence frame "I like... (season)" in Chinese.
