This lesson is designed to be used as a library orientation generally done in conjunction with Ninth Grade English teachers and their classes.
Summary
This lesson is designed to introduce students to the high school library. Generally this lesson is completed at the beginning of the school year and given to ninth grade students.

Background for Teachers
To teach this lesson, you will need an understanding of the high school library and its policies, the library catalog, google slides, and access to the Library Scavenger Hunt guided notes.
Step 1 - Goals and Outcomes
ILearning Intentions:
- Students will be able to "Understand the library layout, the library classifcation system, and the
circulation process", "Demonstrate how to navigate library catalogs, web browsers, and
databases."
Success Criteria:
- Students will complete the library scavenger hunt, and submit a google slide with photos taken from the library scavenger hunt on Canvas.
Step 2 - Planning Instruction
Student Background Knowledge
Prior to this lesson, students will need to have an understanding of how to take a picture on their cell phone, how to upload a photo to a google slide, how to submit an assignment in Canvas.
Strategies for Diverse Learners
Strategies for diverse learners might include an adjustment of the worksheet, students working in pairs, and scaffolding from librarian and library staff.
Step 3 - Instruction
Minutes 1-10 : Direct instruction on library policies and brief library tour including four sections. This instruction will answer the first 6 questions.
Minutes 10-25 : Students will access the library catalog through the library website and independently complete the guided notes 1-4 under Library Catalog, teacher and teacher librarian will circulate and scaffold as needed.
Minutes 25-45 : Students will complete Library Scavenger Hunt portion of guided notes.
Minutes 45-66 : Students will add all photos taken and add them to a google slide which will then be submitted through google slides.
