    Sophomore Career Inventory

    Sophomore Career Inventory

    Overview

MMHS Sophomore PCCR Presentation in English classes.

    Summary

Counselors will visit all sophomore English classes for a presentation based on career planning. We will discuss career exploration while our CTE Specialist talks about the Career Pathways we offer at MMHS as well as what type of Internships are available for our students. During this time counselors will also discuss our district's Advanced Learning Center where students have the opportunity to attend advanced programs for further career exploration. We'll discuss our partnership with UVU for Concurrent Enrollment credit as well as our local technical college, MTech. Students will learn about Holland's Occupational Themes and have the opportunity to take a Career Interest Inventory. Lastly, we'll discuss work values and important job skills. After the class presentation, counselors will spend the following weeks meeting individually with sophomores in their alphabet to discuss their goals, interests, and get to know them a little better.

    Background for Teachers

Counselors will need to be familiar with our Sophomore PCCR Presentation as well as resources available to help sophomores meet their goals.

Step 1 - Goals and Outcomes

    Step 1 Goals and Outcomes

Students will understand the importance of interests and discover possible career options that best fit them. They will learn what they need to earn a Career Pathway while attending MMHS and what routes to take after high school graduation.

We will be focusing on the College & Career Awareness Strands for this lesson.

Strand 1: Students will assess their interests and aptitudes and explore related career options based on current CTE Career Clusters and Pathways.

Standard 1: Assess and apply personal interests, skills, aptitudes, and abilities to education planning and future career decisions.

From one of their top three results from the Career Inventory, students will create a CTE Pathway promotional iMovie, Podcast (through GarageBand), flyer using Keynote, or other similar work that demonstrates their understanding of CTE Pathways and how to earn them. Students will complete assignment using an iPad.

    Step 2 - Planning Instruction

    Step 2 Planning Instruction

    Student Background Knowledge

    Strategies for Diverse Learners

    • Embrace small group and learning stations when applicable
    • Group by learning style, not ability
    • Incorporate ed-tech and adaptive learning tools
