Spanish 2 Reflexive Verb Slide Show Assessment
This activity is to assess whether Spanish 2 students have mastered the reflexive verbs which describe a daily routine for getting ready for the day. Students have been taught the verbs' meanings and how to conjugate them. Students have practiced writing, speaking and listening to these reflexive verbs for two weeks.
The World Language Standard for Spanish 2 I would use is NH.PC.3 ¨I can present on familiar and everyday topics using simple sentences most of the time.¨
Spanish 2 students have learned reflexive verbs which can be used to describe a person´s daily routine for the past two weeks. Students have been taught the verb meanings and how to correctly conjugate the verbs for every pronoun. Students have practiced using these verbs with writing, speaking and listening activities throughout the two weeks. This activity is to assess how well the students have learned the verb meanings and how well they know how use the verbs correctly in sentences.
Background for Teachers
The verbs from this activity were taken from Granite School District´s Spanish 2, Unit 3 vocabulary put together by the World Language District Specialists. They are reflexive verbs that go through one´s morning routine and how one gets ready for the day.
Student Prior Knowledge
Prior to the lesson, students would have completed Spanish 1 and would have been successful in completing Units 1 and 2 by memorizing the vocabulary and successfully completing the daily activities and weekly assessments. Students would have participated in the two weeks of practice using these reflexive verbs and would be ready for this assessment.
Student Learning Intentions & Success Criteria
Students will be able to create a slide show with 8 slides. Students will be able to conjugate the reflexive verbs correctly, writing two sentences in Spanish that are grammatically correct, using the verbs from this unit of study. Students will be able to find a picture or image that represents the sentences. Students will be able to present their slide show to the class.
Instructions to Students
To show me you know how to use reflexive verbs correctly, (Unit 3 Section I) create an 8 slide presentation telling about your daily routine. Each slide should include two sentences in Spanish and a picture or illustration that goes with the slide. You may choose photos you take, a photo from the internet or an illustration you created or from the internet. Make sure you only use photos and illustrations that do not have copyright restrictions. When you are searching, for example on Google Images, click the gear icon, then select "advanced search." Scroll down and use the usage rights drop down menu to select "free to use or share, even comercially."
If you use photos or illustrations from the internet, include a final slide (not part of the required eight content slides) that gives credit for your source(s) for the photos and illustrations you found.
If you use your own photos, make sure they are not embarrassing or revealing in any way. (Think, is this rated "G?" If it is not, don't use that photo.) Please be a good digital citizen and never share or use photos of another person that are embarrassing or revealing in any way. If you wouldn't want it shared if it were you in the photo, don't use or share it of someone else.
When conjugating the verbs, it is expected that all the verbs are in the "yo" form, because this is about you and your daily routine. Make sure at least one of your sentences includes one of the verbs from Unit 3 Section I. You are not required to, but if you want to do an introductory slide, you must create 9 slides. Make sure you conjugate your verbs correctly and you write complete sentences. Plan to present your slide show to the class when completed.
Here is an example of a correct slide:
Me ducho a las 6:30 de la manana. Uso jabon y champu.
(I shower at 6:30 in the morning. I use soap and shampoo.)
Strategies for Diverse Learners
Students who struggle or are unsuccessful in their slide show will be shown their errors, how to improve their slide show and allowed to redo their slide show to have the opportunity to show their increased knowledge and to improve their score.
Advanced students will be required to write a 3-5 sentence paragraph for each slide.
Students who have 8 slides with two sentences in Spanish (per slide) that are grammatically correct, which include the verbs from this unit, and include a picture or illustration that goes with the sentences, will receive a 4/4.
Students who have 8 slides with two sentences in Spanish (per slide) that are mostly grammatically correct, which include the verbs from this unit, and include a picture or illustration that goes with the sentences, will receive a 3/4.
Students who have 4-7 slides with one sentence in Spanish (per slide) that are grammatically correct, which mostly include the verbs from this unit, and include a picture or illustration that goes with the sentences, will receive a 2/4.
Students who have 1-3 slides and/or include some English and/or have many grammatical errors, and/or do not include the verbs from this unit, and/or are missing a picture or illustration that goes with the sentences, will receive a 1/4.
