Open Middle tasks provide opportunities for student to approach a mathematical task using different strategies and representations. They can be used as a warm-up/closing activity, as a formative assessment, or to facilitate discourse and discussion and get insite into student thinking and problem solving. These tasks provide a great opportunity for student to engage with the Standards for Mathematical Practice.

Kindergarten Mathematics: Geometry K.G.2: Correctly name shapes regardless of their orientations or overall size.Students will be able to identify and describe shapes in their everyday surroundings and demonstrate this knowledge through creating a Keynote presentation.

This is an activity where student identify and sort images of real world shapes. 

This is a photo scavenger hunt activity/lesson to review and assess knowledge of three-dimensional shapes. Students will demonstrate the ability to identify, analyze, compare and sort (spheres, cones, cylinders and cubes), by taking pictures of 3D objects found around the classroom and making a collage.
