Students will compare responsibilities, opportunities and expectations of pioneer children to their own lives. Students will identify sources of stress and ways to alleviate stress.

The students will Learn ways to improve mental health and manage stress. They will identify behaviors or situations that may cause conflict or stress and create a personal stress management plan.

This lesson is designed to help kids learn about stress management and the need for self care. 

Students will recognize helpful people in their lives, learn to build relationships with them, and write thank you letters to them.

Students will use the iPad to create a public service announcement on the dangers of alcohol, drugs, and tobacco. They can use an app like iMovie to create the 30 second commercial. 

This lesson will help students understand the short and long term effects of using tobacco as well as why it is addictive.

Students will identify qualities within themselves that make them unique and special. Students will recognize self as different from others. Students will transfer acceptance of self to acceptance of others with differences.

In this lesson students will understand the potential adverse health risks associated with the consumption of energy drinks.

This lesson helps students understand the role the media plays in promoting the use of tobacco products.

Students will list three or more types of evidence of prehistoric cultures that encouraged archaeologists to investigate the marshes around the Great Salt Lake. Students will also explain why it is important not to disturb archaeological remains.

Students will get past misconceptions about people with disabilities through activities that create empathy for those with disabilities.

This lesson will help students to understand how alcohol, tobacco and other drugs affect the human body and can impair an individual's actions.

The students will make an iMovie or Educreations on developing and maintaining healthy relationships.

In small groups, students will define violence and discuss different examples of violence in the media. Each group will then share its definition and examples with the class, the teacher will then conduct the activity: "Taking a Stand on Media Violence". After the activity, the small groups will then discuss different ways of dealing with violence in the media and share ideas with the class.

Students will learn basic vocabulary related to viruses and participate in an activity to see how viruses spread

This activity allows students to hear their peer's initiating positive self-talk. It allows them to connect to their peers both through their shared characteristics and also through the yarn web they weave. This is a great large group activity that encourages participation from everyone in the group. 

This lesson will help students identify personal behaviors that contribute to, or detract from a safe caring community.

This lesson plan is a culminating activity for a unit on Friendship and/or social skills.
