Description

Overview:
In this lesson, students will first be introduced to adding two constant functions graphically to develop an understanding of how to add two functions together.  Next students will add a constant function to a linear function and discover how that translates the graph of the linear function.  Students will also begin building the connection between the graphical sums and algebraic sums.  Students will be exposed to adding two linear functions together graphically before function notation is introduced.  Students will also be exposed to adding a constant and exponential function together as exponential functions are a key function type in Secondary Math 1.   Lastly, students will be challenged with adding a linear function and quadratic function together.  Students will make the connection that adding a linear function and quadratic function together will result in a quadratic function.

The revisions I made to my lesson plan is I changed the material type from lesson to lesson plan. I also inserted screenshots throughout the instruction description portion so teachers can easily reference what I am referring to in my lesson instructions without having to open the attached document with the task. Lastly, I added some clarification around how teachers are monitoring while students are working in small groups. I shared that for teachers to be properly prepared for this lesson, they should work out the entire task in advance to anticipate different student strategies, misconceptions, and common errors. This will also allow the teacher to plan for some of these assessing and advancing question in advance of giving the lesson.

Something that I like about this resource is that the overview is complete and gives a good description of what the lesson is about.

An opportunity for improvement of this resource is ...? I am stumped this resource is amazing. Honestly I am having a hard time looking for an improvement. Maybe providing the pages in Spanish etc. for ELA students.

Something I wonder about this resource is how the author keeps students on task when in their groups.

One new idea to consider in the design of this resource is when highlighting a student's work let them do the explaining to the class. Also, highlight common mistakes. As I said before this is a great lesson plan! Thanks for sharing!
