    Students will research an animal using World Book Online on Utah's Online Library and create a presentation using the Keynote Mac app. Students will then share their presentations.

    • Time frame: five 30 minute lessons
    • Format: face-to-face


    Background for Teachers

    • Teachers should be familiar with World Book Online's animal comparison feature available on Utah's Online Library.
    • Teachers should be familiar with Keynote app


    Step 1 - Goals and Outcomes

    Learning Intentions:

    • Students will Select, extract and record information that addresses the information problem, answer guiding questions, and meet evaluation criteria.

    Success Criteria:

    • Students will research an animal on World Book Online
    • Students will create a Keynote presentation of their research findings. 


    Step 2 - Planning Instruction

    Learning Intentions:

    • Students will be able to seek information on an animal and create a final product to present their research findings.

    Step 3 - Instruction


    • Introduce World Book Online
      • Show students how to search for an animal.
      • Show students the read to me and translate options on World Book.
    • Model taking notes on an animal using the animal research graphic organizer.
    • Give students time to research an animal of their choice and take notes on their graphic organizer.
    • Introduce the Keynote app
      • Show students how to create a presentation
    • Give students time to create a presentation on their animal using their research notes.
