Overview

Children will be assigned a main character in a story they have recently read.  They will act out the story with a beginning, middle, and end.

Summary

Children will be assigned a main character in a story they have recently read.  They will act out the story with a beginning, middle, and end. 

This story capitalizes on an unusual friendship, sharing, helping others, and kindness. 

 

Materials

  • Character Props
    • Materials to make props if needed.  This could include the following:
    • Popsicle sticks
    • Glue or tape
    • Labels
  • Item Props from the story
    • Carrot
    • Cake
    • Cups for refreshments
    • Gems for treasure
  • Picture book Khalil and Mr. Hegarty by Tricia Springstubb 

Background for Teachers/Parents

It is recommended you read Khalil and Mr. Hegarty by Tricia Springstubb several times prior to this activity. 

Intended Learning Outcomes

  • Children will act out the known story to include main events from the beginning, middle, and end of the story. 
  • Children will take turns and engage in conversations with peers and adults.
