    Imaginary Play - Restaurant

    Imaginary Play - Restaurant

    Overview

Child(ren) will brainstorm with an adult about different things they may add to the play area for a specific theme. Children will communicate what they intend to do during imaginary play.

    Summary

Children will communicate what they intend to do during imaginary play. They can use props and toys as they act out certain situations.  Brainstorm with the child(ren) about different things they may add to the play area for that specific theme. Once they are done playing, they can draw a picture and write to tell what they enjoyed the most.

    Materials

    • Props and toys

      • Take out menus from restaurants
      • Chef hats
      • Aprons
      • Tickets or paper to write down orders
      • Play or real dishes and silverware
      • Play or real food and drinks
      • Name tags for children

    Background for Teachers/Parents

Gather materials for the children to play with in one location. Know the child to determine if they may need more realistic props or can re-purpose other things as they make them into props. You may want to share this virtual field trip video with your child(ren) to help brainstorm materials needed.  You could also ask them about their experiences at different types of restaurants.

This could be revisited several times throughout the preschool ages with different types of restaurants, kinds of foods, thinking about food allergies, etc.

    Intended Learning Outcomes

    • Children will play cooperatively with others
    • Children will plan their play and help to gather materials.
    • Children will report their play through drawing, painting, or writing about it.
