    Overview

    This is a lesson plan where students create a project in Apple Pages on iPads with pictures and labels describing singular, plural, singular possessive and plural possessive nouns. 

    Summary

    Students will create a Pages document for singular, plural, and possessive nouns using pictures they take themselves, putting them in the right category, and labeling the pictures.  It can be done by individual students or in small groups. This lesson can be used synchronous or asynchronous. This could be assigned face-to-face or vitual.

    • Time frame: 2 weeks with about four 30 minute sesions
    • Format: This lesson would work best synchronous and face-to face but could be done  asynchronous and virtual.

    Learning Intentions:

    • Students will be able to understand possessive nouns and the difference between singular and plural nouns.
    • Students will be understand and be able to write singular possessive nouns and plural possessive nouns

    Success Criteria:

    • Students will take pictures of nouns and label them  
    • Students will title or draw the lables for singular, plural, singular possessive and plural possessive nouns

    Student Background Knowledge

    • Prior to this lesson, students will need to have an understanding of what a noun is and what singular and plural mean

    Strategies for Diverse Learners

    A Pages template could already be made for students who need extra accommodations with understanding how to set up and make pages. Students could be in groups of two or three to work on the project as well. In addition, students could receive extra help or answers to questions on this project when working with aids during centers time.

    • Assign students to be in groups or to work individually with this project. Review the noun vocabulary and work on one page for each lesson. 
    • In the iPad app Pages, use either a blank template in basic or the visual report template to create a explanation/example page for each of the following:
      • Singular nouns
      • Plural nouns
      • Singular possessive nouns
      • Plural possessive nouns
    • Using the iPad, take pictures of nouns that could fit in each of these categories. Add the pictures to the correct page and use either titles, captions, or the drawing tool to label each drawing. 
    • Be prepared to share your Pages project with the class.

    Step 4 - Assessments

    The main assessment for this lesson will be using the rubric below at the end of the project. However, ongoing assessments during the project will be:

     

    • Questioning of why they include pictures on each of the pages we are working on for the assignments
    • Oral feedback as the students are working on each page
    • Student self-reflection at the end of each lesson to check how their page for the day looks
    • Presentation of their project on the SMART board at the end of the project to the class
