Essential Question: How do the seasons of the Earth affect our lives?
When it’s summer in Salt Lake City and Chicago, it’s winter in Rio de Janeiro and Sydney, Australia. Why? Direct students to the science resources in Utah's Online Library to research and explain how the tilt of the Earth and its orbit around the sun produces the seasons. World Book Encyclopedia has easy-to-access information as well as a great graphic showing the tilt of the Earth on its axis. Digital Science Online has 3 short videos that help explain the tilt of the Earth. Gale’s Science in Context has dozens of articles and other resources including a 4-minute video about the seasons from Khan Academy.
