UT.SEEd.5.1.1
Utah Core Science with Engineering Education (2019-2023)
Grade 5
Learning Domain: Characteristics and Interactions of Earth's Systems
Standard: Analyze and interpret data to describe patterns of Earth’s features. Emphasize most earthquakes and volcanoes occur in bands that are often along the boundaries between continents and oceans while major mountain chains may be found inside continents or near their edges. Examples of data could include maps showing locations of mountains on continents and the ocean floor or the locations of volcanoes and earthquakes. (ESS2.B)

UT.SEEd.8.4.5
Utah Core Science with Engineering Education (2019-2023)
Grade 8
Learning Domain: Interactions with Natural Systems and Resources
Standard: Analyze and interpret patterns of the occurrence of natural hazards to forecast future catastrophic events, and investigate how data are used to develop technologies to mitigate their effects. Emphasize how some natural hazards, such as volcanic eruptions and severe weather, are preceded by phenomena that allow prediction, but others, such as earthquakes, may occur without warning.
