Cartoons and Art at the time of the American Revolution
Overview
This lesson will allow students to create their own meme or GIF dipicting a political cartoon during the time of the American Revolution. Students will be able to observe different cartoons from the time period and discuss their meaning.
Summary
Students will evaluate different politacal cartoons and art from the time of the American Revolution.This lesson should take about two days. It is a virtual and face face lesson.
Background for Teachers
Teachers will need to know the meanings of the art and cartoons to help guide the students in their ideas. They will need to understand the point of view and what the author is trying to communicate. Teachers will need to know how to instruct their students on creating a meme or GIF.
Step 1 - Goals and Outcomes
Students will be able to identify the point of view and meaning of the political cartoons and artwork.
Students will create a GIF or MEME showing an their own political cartoon for American Revolution time period.
ISTE Standard Students will understand the importance of digital citizenship in recognizing that the Library of Congress is openly licensed.

Students choose the appropriate platforms and tools for meeting the desired objectives of their creation or communication
Step 2 - Planning Instruction
Prior to the lesson students need to know how to make a GIF or MEME. Teachers can review with students how to create a GIF or Meme. Teachers and students will reveiw what has been going on among the colonists at this time period. They will review the contentetion between the colonists and England.
Step 3 - Instruction
Students will visit the Extra Extra Read all about it page. They will click on the different illustrations and learn about the meaning of the pictures and it's title. Students will then complete the google form. As a whole group the class will discuss their findings and thoughts. Next, the students will split up into groups of 3 or four. The groups will create a meme or gif dipicting their own political picture of the American Revolution time period. Students will write a pargraph explaining what their perspecive is behind thier picture and what it's meaning is.
Step 4 - Assessments
Students will complete google form on learning hub. Students will create a GIF or Meme representing their own political cartoon. They will write a paragraph explaining their GIF or Meme.
