Overview

This resource is for preschool aged students. With help from an adult to help facilitate the activities, students will be able to start learning about different emotions.  It contains many activities and videos to help teach your student(s) about expressing, and identifying emotions.

Step 1 - Goals and Outcomes

 

Student's Prior Knowledge:

  • PreK students know that they have emotions and are able to express emotions such as being mad or sad in situations that are immediate to them.

Learning Intentions:

  •  PreK students will be able learn about 4 specific emotions(mad, sad, happy, and scared) and will start to understand causes or reasons that they or someone else would experience this emotion.

Success Criteria:

  • Students will be able to identify 4 specific emotions (mad, sad, happy, and scared).

 

Step 2 - Planning Instruction

 

Student Background Knowledge

PreK students know that they have emotions and are able to express emotions such as being mad or sad in situations that are immediate to them.

 

Step 3 - Instruction

 

Objectives: PreK students will learn about 5 specific emotions, and start to understand cuases or reasons that they or someone else would experience this emotion.

Instructions:

Watch the story below with your student to begin the discussion about emotions.

Pause the video when sitck and stone experience a new emotion. The emotions we would like to focus on this lesson are: Sad, Happy, Scared, and Mad.

Talk about the reason for that specific emotion. Using the chart below write down your students thoughts on each emotion that you discuss.
