This problem requires a sound understanding of the fraction relationship between part and whole and can be used for finding fractions of numbers and quantities. Students are given the fractional amount of apples in a fruit bowl and the specific number of other fruit in the bowl in order to figure out how many apples are in the bowl. The Teachers' Notes page includes suggestions for implementation, discussion questions, ideas for extension, a link to a worksheet which provides student support, and a downloadable pdf of the puzzle.

This problem provides students practice in fractions (tenths) and challenges students' addition and subtraction skills. Students are given a cake with the numbers zero to nine on it. They are asked to cut the cake into three pieces with three cuts so that the numbers on each piece add to the same total. The Teachers' Notes page offers rationale, discussion questions, ideas for extension and support, and a printable (pdf) worksheet of the problem.

This problem provides students an opportunity to find equivalent fractions and carry out some simple additions and subtractions of fractions in a context that may challenge and motivate students. Users need to download, print, and cut-out the fraction jigsaw. Then, they must arrange the square pieces right-side up so that the edges that touch contain equivalent fractions. The Teachers' Notes page offers rationale, suggestions for implementation, discussion questions, and ideas for extension and support.

This problem provides an interesting context to consolidate addition of fractions and requires students to develop and analyze different strategies and explain their findings. Students are asked to find a general method for expressing unit fractions (fractions which have numerators of one) as the sum of two different unit fractions. They also explore whether all unit fractions can be written like this in more than one way. The Teachers' Notes page offers rationale, suggestions for implementation, discussion questions, and ideas for extension and support.
