This is a task from the Illustrative Mathematics website that is one part of a complete illustration of the standard to which it is aligned. Each task has at least one solution and some commentary that addresses important aspects of the task and its potential use.

This lesson is written using the Launch, Explore, Summarize lesson plan format and includes a link to a chart to anticipate student strategies and monitor student strategies and thinking as they work through the problems. Tasks also include a recording sheet where applicable. They are meant to be used as ideas. Please make changes and adaptations as necessary for the students in your class.
