Benefits of eMedia Groups Discussion - Spring A 2023, Fall B 2023

Consider how eMedia groups can help you connect and collaborate with other educators.

What are the benefits of eMedia groups? How will they help you build your professional learning network (PLN)?

There are a lot of benefits of using eMedia.  It can provide a space to collaborate with other instructors regarding your course curriculum, activities, etc. This is a really great opportunity for Business Department teachers because we can teach multiple classes every semester and it can be difficult to find quality assignments and assessments for each course.  EMedia is especially great because we can work with teachers all around the state of Utah.  I have worked with many teachers in my school and district who offer the same courses, but it's great to get resources and tools from others within Utah.  As I use and share resources and activities, this can help me pair with other Business teachers to help create a better course and program for our students.

One of the benefits of eMedia groups is the ability to connect with other educators throughout the state that you are aligned with professionally.  This could mean joining a group that is for teachers in your individual school district, teachers who teach your same content area, or fill the same role as you.  This is a great way to grow your PLN.

I also like that there is a place to share resources that are particularly relevant to your group, as well as a tab for discussion.  The discussion capability could allow for conversations around how individuals are implementing the resources in their individual settings or could be a place to seek support with challenges individuals are facing.

There are two main benefits for me. First is connection and networking: eMedia groups provide an opportunity to connect with in-state professionals. You can participate in discussions, exchange ideas and collaborate with others, which can help you build a strong PLN. Second is the access to Information: eMedia groups can provide you with access to a wealth of information, resources, and expertise.

The benefits of eMedia groups are many. One such benefit is the opportunity for educators with similar interests to be brought together to share and get resources and information. No longer do we have to sit in our classroom and try to think of or create resources to use in our lessons. Another benefit is that it is a place where educators can discuss the successes and failures of implementing resources. Questions can be asked. Advice can be given. Not just to teachers in your school but to teachers from across the state.

I see the benefits of eMedia groups as being primarily that of collaboration. This type of chat and dicussion could also serve as a good way to peer-review lessons posted to emedia...one that is not as public facing as the comments that are right on the lessons themselves. What I mean by this is you probably don't want group feedback right on the lesson for all to see because once the changes are made the comments would be out-of-date and irrelevant yet persist forever unless deleted. So this forum would be the better place to do it.

As for professional learning networks, I requested to join the STEM group. The request is still pending but I'm interested in the strategies and methods the group uses for teaching, as well as their technology-focused discussions. I see this as a great way to network with other educators that have similar interests and teach related subjects.

There are so many benefits to participating in eMedia groups.  I am located in St. George and I would love to collaborate with teachers in different districts in northern Utah.  It would be interesting to ask them questions about how they are doing things compared to here in St. George.  I also would enjoy getting outside perspectives on different hot topics such as "banning or sensoring" books.

I enjoy going to conferences outside of St. George and connecting with people from different school districts.  I feel using eMedia groups would be similar.

In my opinion there are a lot of benefits to eMedia groups. Sometimes we as teachers come up with great ideas but we aren't sure how they will play our or we aren't sure of all the details until we bounce the ideas off ithers. This is what makes the discussion options great. Sometimes we have an idea of what we want but we have to take the time to make it. Being a aprt of the eMedia groups means we can check and see if it has been made before. This can make the burden of actually making the lesson plan and resource that much easier. EMedia groups help us build our PLN in many ways but I feel like most importantly it builds a commmunity outside of our schools to help us learn and grow as educators.

As a school librarian at a Charter School in Southern Utah, there are lots of benefits to eMedia groups.  Especially those groups pertaining to libraries and librarians (UELMA).  In most schools, there are several teachers that you can collaborate with about your concerns or lesson plans, etc.  But, there usually is only one librarian.  So being able to share ideas or get questions answered from peers across the state and in different schools is VERY beneficial to me.

Yes! There is no need to reinvent the wheel if something has already been created. I also find it so interesting how other educators are teaching the same concepts and how their lessons worked or didn't work and what they would change about it.

There are several benefits of eMedia groups. A group with teachers all teaching the same thing can share resources that are helpful. Groups are like a shortcut to finding resources that are useful in a specific subject or standard. Groups, group together teachers who are all trying to accomplish the same thing in their individual classes. The eMedia groups can help me build my professional learning network because I can easly find educators that teach the same things I do. I can find educators in my own school district, city or from across the state and connect with them and we can share resources with each other.

One benefit of eMedia groups is the chance to collaborate with other educators.  I have learned so much from other teachers, sometimes a small thing can make a huge difference in the classroom.  It's great to share my ideas also, hoping I will be able to help someone else.

EMedia groups will help us build a professional learning network by making our teaching a little easier!  I love the ideas, advice, resources, etc. that are available.

Every time I post something I hope it is useful for others as well! I try to give very explicit and clear directions so that another educator with no background in the lesson is able to easily use it in their own classroom! I agree that it's so nice to build a professional community. I love that I can not only connect with others, but connect with others outside my district.

eMedia allows for a professionals to collaborate and share resources. It's a wonderful place to gather resources, dig deeper into topics of interest, and explore ideas from others in our field. I love eMedia because it saves me time. I can use resources created by others instead of reinventing the wheel. Not only does emedia offer resources to educators, but it offers the opportunity to network with other educators. I love that eMedia gives users the opportunity to connect with other professionals whether to ask questions or expand on mutually interesting topics.

Kathy 1 year, 10 months ago

I love how you pointed out digging deepr into topics of interest and exploring others' ideas. That is what I look forward to most out of joining these groups.

The benefits of eMedia groups involve the ability to colloborate with people you normally would not get to. On a digital platform, you can share ideas, discuss problems and solutions, find lesson plans, and much more with hundreds of people who you normally would not be able to connect with. As a singleton in my school, it will be so nice to speak with other media coordinators from around the state who are most definitely facing the same challenges we are in Southern Utah. I would love to hear how they are handling book censorship and handling parent complaints along with positive things such as what they are doing in their libraries with their students to encourage their students love of reading. I joined UELMA, which is a group for Utah's librarians. I am excited to see what I can learn from the many librarians from around our state.

I have gotten a lot of great ideas from teachers doing the UEN classes and reading other teachers discussions and seeing their lessons. I think the benefit of the eMedia groups is that those discusssions can continue and I keep learning without being a part of a Canvas class.

These will help me build my professional learning network because I can find teachers that think, teach, and respond like I do and connect with those teachers to bounce ideas off of. As teachers we know that our PLC's are the best way to share information and learn from each other but if we don't have a team that like to collaborate this is a great resrouce to use to find people who do.

The benefits of emedia groups include the ability to share resources, organize resources, collaborate with other like minded instructors, and find great ideas and lesson plans.   I think that using and participating in emedia groups gives a professional atmosphere where they can build their networks of professionals outside of their building or district.  It is also a source of collaboration with other professionals for lesson ideas as well as a place to talk to other educators who are dealing with similiar issues.

eMedia groups allow educators the ability to connect with other educators from across the nation. It means that our PLN goes from a local group or district to anyone. This is amazing an gives us the ability to collaborate with people that have more knowledge and can help us. This is a valuable resource.

There are many benefits of using the eMedia groups. One benefit of groups is that educators can access multiple resources about a specific topic that has been shared within the group. Looking through the resources in the groups can give teachers new ideas for teaching concepts as well as different strategies altogether. Groups also narrow down the content. With all the resources on the web, it can be daunting to find specific core connected content. I think that using groups in emedia can save time filtering through content that may not be useful. In addition, creating or joining groups with educators who share the same goal, can help optimize time and can be a great place to share great resources for others to use.

I feel there are many benefits to joining eMedia groups. Educators can share resources and lesson plans within their content area or grade level. This can help to narrow down searching for quality tools and allows for a group of educators to converse with eachother. I like the idea of being able to find quality assessments, resources, lessons, and strategies from fellow teachers on a larger scale. Instead of networking within our districts or schools, we can converse with educators from across the state. Educators can ask clarifying questions and adapt tools to their units as they see fit. Overall, eMedia groups are beneficial to Utah educators.

Some of the benefits of eMedia groups can be that it can help organize resources. It can make it easier to find items when they are organized by group rather than trying to search through all the resources. It can help you organize your own items with the items of teachers that you know or are working with so that you can all access your resources together. They can also help you build your PLN by connecting with other teachers outside your immediate network that you may not have been able to meet any other place. It can build your ability to connect with more teachers outside your district or even state.

I think eMedia is a great way to conslidate the necessary resources an educator needs to implement in their classroom. Having the groups in one place that's easily accessibly also helps with sharing information with other educators and learning about their best practices. I often learn more from what other educators post than the lesson plans themselves, particularly when an educator reviews a lesson plan or adapts the lesson plan to suit their classroom.
