"Communication is the Key" - "You may have experienced or are going to experience a second deployment of your parent. This family had a really hard time when their dad came home from a 13 month deployment. They figured out as a family that they didn't communicate enough during the deployment. They put their heads together and decided to create a monthly family newsletter and it really worked."

My Maintenance Self-Care Plan Worksheet

"Maintenance self-care" refers to the activities that you have identified as important to your well-being and that you have committed to engage in on a regular basis to take care of yourself. My Maintenance Self-Care Worksheet provides an opportunity for you to identify the activities you would like to add to your self-care practice in each self-care domain (“new practice”). It is also useful to identify possible barriers or obstacles that could get in the way of implementing and/or maintaining these new activities. Think about what you anticipate these barriers/obstacles to be (try to list at least 3 or 4 in the spaces provided), how you can address them, and how you can remind yourself to follow your plan. Write these solutions on the last page of the My Maintenance Self-Care Worksheet. If you have chosen to limit or eliminate a negative coping strategy that you currently use, note this as well.

This lesson plan is a simple project to have students show that they can use a template, add pictures of their choice and add a few paragraphs of body text to a document. This is something that can be done in any program, but this specific lesson is designed for Pages (Apple's version of word processing). The idea is to make a summary of school events that have happened in the first two-three weeks of school. This lesson could be modified for any three week stretch of school that aligns to your scope and sequence. The important part of this project is that students learn how to add pictures, use a template and add some text for their desired school activities.

Trauma can destroy a child's confidence and self-esteem, but there are ways to begin strengthening it. Big and small goals encourage little ones to look to the future, rather than staying focused on the past. Having confidence in one's ability to learn and grow is a powerful force in healing and allows kids to build a sense of hope for the future. In this workshop, parents and kids can look forward—and move forward—with hope.
